Hilary Lister is good with her mouth.

This woman rocks.
You may not have heard of her, but you should know this name by heart. From her own website at hilarylister.com, she states an intro that I can’t beat:
Hilary Lister is a 36 year old quadriplegic from Kent, only able to move her head, sailed into the record books on 23rd August 2005 when she sailed solo across the English Channel by using a ‘sip and puff’ system of straws to control the sails and tiller.
This chick wasn’t born a quad, and has frankly done more things in her life than my sorry butt could hope to do. Qualified for the paralympics? check. Studied as a biochemist? check. She just makes you realize that the spirit is sometimes something the body can’t stifle. I am sorry for getting all “Yoda” on you…but there it is.
And hey, if you think you’ve got oral skills? Beat sailing the English Channel….with your mouth.

Absolutly amazinng! Can I just tell you that it was so nice to read a story like this when all I have been seeing makes me want to jump off a bridge. (ie Prop 8, the economy, healthcare)
It is so nice to be reminded of what we, as humans, can do.

THANK YOU for posting this!
As Kelly said, it’s so refreshing and, dare I say it, uplifting to read such a postively inspiring story! I hadn’t heard of Hilary, but you may now consider me a fan!
Smart, determined and fierce= amazingly sexy! I’ll take that any day over your skanky Hollywood types.
Excellent!

When we came upon Hilary, we knew we had to bring it to you! She’s totally sexy, determined, and I think she’d make one heck of a catch - perfect for Grrlplanet.
We’re so glad you liked her. We’ve gotten so much feedback through email (and a few comments)!

Great story :) Thanks for sharing it with us…it definitely made me feel all warm & fuzzy, and with the way things have been going recently, I know that I needed that.
